Frequently asked questions

What is the Global Sentiment Monitor (GSM)?

The Global Sentiment Monitor (GSM) is a real-time measurement of the world’s news, using sophisticated AI tools to translate unstructured big data into performance signals on countries and companies. 11,000+ credible news sources in 110 languages are monitored in real-time, analysed sentence by sentence and aggregated to country, topic, company and sector grain. Source credibility and censorship levels are integrated; social media platforms are deliberately excluded.

What countries are covered?

All 193 UN member states, covering country-wise and topic-wise framing, markets and macro signals, refreshed every hour. Continuous time series going back to 2000 for historical context, for every country.

How many companies are covered?

Around 20,000 publicly listed companies, plus their countries and sectors.

What information is available for each country?

Headline sentiment (credibility- and press-freedom-weighted), covering six key areas: politics, economy, society, environment, science & technology, general feel. In addition, the GSM uncovers macro-topics (inflation, employment, growth, monetary, trade, fiscal, consumer, energy, housing). Historical context goes back to 2000.

What information is available for each company?

Our AI tools extract corporate information on financial metrics (performance, revenues, sales, outlook, etc.), as well as comparative metrics versus competitors on both a qualitative and quantitative level, including innovation, brand power, competitiveness, governance and leadership. In addition, the GSM provides comprehensive information on corporate ESG themes, both on performance and on ESG controversies that can adversely affect corporate performance — providing a comprehensive framework to assess company performance and outlook.

How does it work?

11,000 news sources screened in real time, weighted for source credibility and the censorship level of the source’s home country. Scores are calculated using SolAbility’s proprietary methodology.

Is this a trading signal?

No. The Monitor is a research and analytical product. We surface divergence between sentiment and price, lead-lag relationships, macro narrative movers and pre-event positioning, but we do not produce a buy/sell recommendation. Customers integrate the data into their own models and processes.

Do you offer an API?

Yes. The read-only REST API and an MCP server for AI-agent integration share one credential core with the GSCI Portal’s API. Keys are minted in the GSCI Portal’s Settings.
